Norman, Oklahoma

There is an ice storm going on in Oklahoma today. On the way home, I spotted a disabled vehicle near one of our worst intersections. I parked in the nearby plaza parking lot and went over to see if they needed any help or a cell phone or something. The lady behind the wheel told me she had only run out of gas, one of her passengers had already gone to get some at the nearby gas station, and she would be on her way shortly. So I handed her the envelope and said "Here, this is for you. Have a nice day."

Auburn, Indiana

Every so often, I see an older man who carries a piece of cardboard asking for help. On the bottom of that board is written "God Bless You". Every time I see him...I never have cash on me...until today. Standing on the corner of Touring and 15th in Auburn, he was the recipient of 100 bucks and a little business card that said on the back What does the Lord require of you but to love kindness and mercy. ~Micah. His sign was right. I *do* feel blessed.

Norman, Oklahoma

We were at Red Robin for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Our order somehow got messed up or delivered to another table, and we wound up having to wait about half an hour for it. Our waiter went above and beyond to make sure we were happy in spite of all that. Remembering something another poster here had said about the after-church tips being disproportionately low, I decided to leave my envelope for this fine young man who was doing so much to try and please us. I just want him to know that his efforts were appreciated.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

I carried the envelope for 4 weeks, including two separate, week-long business trips, but could not seem to find anyone to give it to. After I had been back for a week, I just happened to be in the city at a particular time, and came across a guy begging for spare change at the bottom of an interstate off-ramp. I had been hoping at some point to be able to help such a person, so I gave it to him.

Bakersfield, California

Hi,

Sorry it took me so long to write this. I was in Bakersfield, California a few days before Thanksgiving. I stopped to eat at a diner that was pretty deserted and didn't look like it got a lot of business. As I sat there eating my dinner I listened as the newly hired waitress was told she would be working the holiday. She was taking a lot of grief and looked very sad. As I paid my check I called her over and handed her an envelope with 5 20 dollar bills and a bible verse that talked about God's love for her. I told her that this was a gift, and not a tip so she did not have to share it. Then I left quickly before she could figure out what I was talking about. It was great!

Angola, Indiana

Handed an envelope to a frazzled young mom struggling with a couple of fussy toddlers in a thrift store.

I put the money in a Christmas card and gave it to one of the coordinators at our local Head Start program, with instructions to pass it along to someone who might be able to use it.

Norman, Oklahoma

My wife and I decided to give $100 dollars to a female waitress at Johnny Carino's. Ever since we worked as servers in a restaurant, we have known the tips on Sunday after church to be particularly bad. So, with that said, we sat down with a group of friends after church for a big meal, and we gave it to her with our payment just before we left. We just wanted to bless her, no strings attached.

Kendallville, Indiana

I saw an elderly man on a snow flurried blustery day, looking like he was in need of a cup of hot coffee or a couple of arthritis pills. Since I had neither, but I had an envelope with my hundred bucks... I approached him.

I noticed his collar at that point. I said "Father?" and he looked up. I handed him the envelope and smiled. He looked at me quizzically. He took the envelope from my hand and I said "Thank you" and turned and left.

Davie, Florida

I have a friend who told me of a woman she knows who was in the path of the last hurricane, Wilma, that went through Florida. She is currently without power, and is operating on rechargeable batteries. I got the lady's address from my friend and have sent the hundred bucks along to her, along with a quote of Matthew 6:34, which I hope encourages her:

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
